Recently, Texas Christian University student Rachel Tiede got the chance to meet her hometown Senator, Al Franken (D-MN), at a "Breakfast with Al" event in the Hart Senate Office Building. Rachel was able to meet Senator Franken and hear about the work he is doing in the Senate on behalf of constituents. She also got the chance to speak with Congressional staff and learn about the roles and specialities of Senator Franken's legislative advisers.

"It was really cool to see the Senator up close and in person," Rachel said. "I'm from Minnesota, and D.C. has never really been in the center of my attention day-to-day. But that breakfast helped me see politics and public policy as something tangible instead of just something that happens halfway across the country."

This event was part of the Public Policy Dialogues program, an part of students' civic engagement programming that acquaints them with public policy and citizen engagement in government.
