On April 11th, three TWC students traveled to the Longworth House Office Building to meet their Member of Congress, Rep. Dave Loebsack. The students, who attend the University of Northern Iowa, Cornell College, and the University of Iowa, spoke with Rep. Loebsack (a former college professor of political science) on topics such as:

  • Iowa politics
  • The economy
  • Jobs in Iowa
  • Education

When asked about the visit, University of Northern Iowa student Dylan Keller said that, "...being a member of the opposite party than Representative Loebsack, I was hesitant how beneficial this meeting would be to me. I have helped a couple campaigns try to unseat him with no success. The PPDCH visit allowed me to address specific policy areas of interest to me directly to my Congressman. I was able to find some common ground with Representative Loebsack and understand what he is pushing for in Congress. The PPDCH has not changed my political ideology, but provides the opportunity to understand who your Congressmen are and what they are fighting for you on Capitol Hill."

Public Policy Dialogues on Capitol Hill (PPDCH), sponsored by the Verizon Foundation, provide students with the unique opportunity to meet and interact with members of the Senate or House of Representatives representing their state or congressional district. This is one component of The Washington Center's internship program.
