The Washington Center enjoys strong ties with several international governments, bringing hundreds of students from around the world to participate in academic internship programs and seminars every year. One of those partnerships - The U.S. - Gibraltar Internationalization and Professional Development Internship Program – will enroll 60 students between 2013 and 2015 from the territory in the southern Iberian Peninsula.

Gibraltar, a sovereign British territory, shares a border with Andalucía, Spain. Students from Gibraltar exhibit a fusion of culture that adds unique value to the diverse TWC community.

The Honorable Samantha Sacramento, Gibraltar’s minister for equality, social services and the elderly, recently visited TWC this fall to meet current students, learn more about their internship experiences and discuss what the future holds after they finish the program. Sacramento encouraged the Gibraltarian students to engage in all available opportunities during their time at TWC. Given her position as Gibraltar’s highest ranking social services officer, Sacramento emphasized the importance of using the semester to learn from the many well developed nonprofits and institutions in Washington, D.C. and take those lessons back to Gibraltar to benefit the territory’s public services.
