On Thursday, April 13th, two students from Flordia traveled to Capitol Hill to meet their Member of Congress, Lois Frankel. Representative Frankel, a Democrat, represents Florida's 22nd District - a coastal district which includes West Palm Beach, Boynton Beach, and parts of Fort Lauderdale and Pompano Beach. Frankel sits on the House Transportation & Infrastructure Committee as well as the House Foreign Affairs Committee.

The students discussed a variety of foreign-affairs related topics such as US support for Israel, international trade, and how the presidential election might affect US diplomacy. The discussion was good; Florida Atlantic University student Carly Louis-Jean said that he "was able to gain a more thorough understanding of the way Congress operates." Likewise, Quinnipiac University student Corey Scott felt that "Congresswoman Frankel was very welcoming and direct, and was willing to answer both domestic and policy questions asked. She was also very encouraging and keen to learn about her constituents' career and education plans for the future."

This meeting was part of The Washington Center's ongoing Public Policy Dialogues program, an assignment that brings students to Capitol Hill and elsewhere to learn about DC's policy landscape. This gives students the chance to meet with policymakers and to discuss issues of concern at the highest level.
