Students and staff at The Washington Center concluded the fall 2016 semester with a commencement ceremony on Friday, December 9.

After 15 eventful weeks in D.C., students took a few moments to celebrate what they accomplished, recognize those who went above and beyond during their time here and turn toward the future.

Following remarks from alumni speaker Debora Aponte Martinez, five students received recognition for their commitments to achievement, professional growth and community stewardship with an award presentation:

Academic Excellence - Michael Fine, Fairleigh Dickinson University

Civic Engagement - Jeremy Moskow, Hofstra University

Community Life - David Broadwell, Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania

Professional Growth - Jakira Rogers, Suffolk University; Jose-Andres Camacho, Florida International University

Before the ceremony concluded, TWC recognized VOA Student Union Digital Managing Editor and internship site supervisor Kathleen Struck. Struck received this semester’s outstanding internship site supervisor award.

Hear Struck in her own words talk about why being an internship supervisor is the best part of her job.
