The Washington Center is pleased to announce that Cokie Roberts, political commentator for ABC News and National Public Radio, is confirmed to emcee The Washington Center’s Gala 2012: Celebrating 50,000 Alumni, on Monday, October 1, 2012, at the National Building Museum.

Roberts is a long time friend of The Washington Center, having spoken TWC students at numerous events and seminars particularly around the discussion on politics and the media. “Being an adopted Washingtonian and coming from a long line of family members who live and breathe politics and news, I know The Washington Center well for the internship programs and seminars that instilled among young people the ideals of public service.  Graduating 50,000 alumni is an impressive milestone and I am pleased to join in this celebration,” Roberts said.

Cokie Roberts is a political commentator for ABC News, providing analysis for all network news programming.  In her more than forty years in broadcasting, she has won countless awards, including three Emmys.  She has been inducted into the Broadcasting and Cable Hall of Fame, and was cited by the American Women in Radio and Television as one of the fifty greatest women in the history of broadcasting. The Washington Center’s annual gala is the organization’s largest and most important fundraising event. Proceeds from this event help fund more than two million dollars in scholarships and financial aid to 80 percent of our students annually at The Washington Center. Last year, gala proceeds provided $1,000 in scholarships to 250 participants in TWC’s programs. For more info or to support this event click here.
