The Washington Center alumni community gathered on Oct.5 to honor Kevin McIntyre ’83, Kimberly Berryman ’05 and Angelique Sina ’10 – the recipients of the 2015 alumni awards. Fellow alumni, current TWC interns and staff celebrated McIntyre (a partner in the Washington, D.C. office of Jones Day), Berryman (an Emmy Award-winning CNN producer) and Sina (who works with the World Bank Group's International Finance Corporation) during a breakfast at the TWC Residential and Academic Facility.

McIntyre received this year’s alumni achievement award:

“One of the first things I learned about as a lawyer was causation. As one of the guiding principles of my profession, I know that it applies to everything in your career. You have to always think about the effect you’re having on your job, your community and all those around you,” he said.

Berryman, who accepted the alumni engagement award, said her desire to engage with TWC students comes from an appreciation of her job and having the opportunity to share it with others.

“It’s funny that I’m getting an award for doing something that I love. There are a lot of reasons I do alumni engagement with TWC, but the main reason is that it keeps my job fun. When I bring TWC students on tours of the CNN studio, there’s always that moment where they gasp because they think it’s so cool, and I know right then that at least one person has been inspired to do what I do. And that’s pretty cool.”

Sina is one of the TWC alumni community’s many young alums who quickly rose to the top as D.C. insiders. Here is her parting advice to other young alums and students who want to find the same success:

“The only thing I can say is that I didn’t get this award on my own – I had a lot of people helping me along the way,” she said. “I tell current students that it doesn’t matter what you do, whether you stay in DC or take a different path, always try to play a leading role in whatever it is that you’re doing, whoever you’re working with.”
