In an article in the Chronicle of Philanthropy, The Washington Center for Internships and Academic Seminars was showcased as a non-profit that not only maintained its donor support in a challenging economy but also saved money and created opportunities by taking risks for future growth. With real estate and building costs at a low, TWC will save $1 million over the next four years with the addition of their new Capitol Hill student housing facility. Donors say that they continue to support TWC because their programs and projects are tangible and show results.
Students at The Washington Center will be able to enjoy a more comfortable internship this summer when Paradigm Construction finishes its work.

Mike Smith, president of The Washington Center, spoke with Building & Construction Northeast about how the new residencies located at the north end of Capitol Hill in the NoMa will affect TWC and its students. To enhance the quality of life of their interns, TWC is completing a new six story, 140,000 square feet housing facility that will house 348 beds for students primarily majoring in subjects such as political science, economics, civics and government.

Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Admiral Mike Mullen addressed a group of approximately 160 student and faculty participants in The Washington Center for Internships and Academic Seminars’ (TWC) Inside Washington 2010 Academic Seminar. Admiral Mullen spoke about the U.S. Military’s ever evolving and adapting role in National Security. The program, held at George Washington University, also included a question and answer session for students.
The Washington Center’s Interns Bring Benefits to Local Organizations
WASHINGTON, Dec. 8 - Businesses and nonprofits are utilizing interns to create a pipeline of potential employees, according to a new poll from The Washington Center for Internships and Academic Seminars (TWC), which surveyed nearly 400 local organizations. The findings also show that obtaining an internship is a critical success factor for the emerging workforce, as 96 percent of organizations polled said they're "more likely to hire a recent college grad with internship experience.

WASHINGTON – September 15, 2009 – When it comes to finding a job, 76 percent of alumni of The Washington Center for Internships and Academic Seminars (TWC) said the program helped them gain the skills and knowledge necessary to advance entry into their chosen profession. As the unemployment rate reaches a 26-year high, college students who participate in programs at TWC have the confidence to succeed in finding a job, according to 500 students surveyed from the nonprofit’s 40,000 member alumni network.

Agencies Utilize Interns to Develop Human-Capital Pipeline
WASHINGTON - July 6, 2009 – As the nation’s college students search for career opportunities in today’s increasingly competitive job market, many are shifting their interest from Wall Street to Pennsylvania Avenue. A recent survey conducted by The Washington Center for Internships and Academic Seminars (TWC) found 69 percent of students are more inclined to choose a career in public service.
This drastic increase creates a number of benefits for Federal Government agencies.
