The Leadership Forum enhances the internship experience by strengthening your skills, broadening your understanding of issues and building your professional confidence. Complementing both the internship and academic course, it is comprised of a blend of activities.
Roundtable on Philanthropy and Social Responsibility
This event highlights how the public and private sectors, individual philanthropists and nongovernmental organizations work together to address pressing social challenges in the United States and around the globe.

The Alan K. Simpson - Norman Y. Mineta Leaders Series In this series of highly regarded speakers, distinguished professionals from the government, media, business and nonprofit worlds address and interact with students. Some recent speakers have been Lawrence Korb, Founder of the Center for American Progress, Former Senator Chuck Hagel; Kevin Klose, former president, National Public Radio; Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dennis Hastert.

Public Policy Dialogues on Capitol Hill, Sponsored by Verizon Students meet in very small groups with policymakers—usually members of Congress and their staffs—to discuss policy, politics and legislation impacting students and their communities.
Small Group Activities Organized by program area, this series of activities is designed to introduce students to practicing professionals and organizations in individual areas of interest. Site visits, panels, workshops, briefings, walking tours and other educational outings are included.
Civic Engagement ProjectsInterns are given the chance to work with members of local communities to learn about and address the challenges of local, national and international communities. In the past, interns have undertaken such projects as distributing books and toys to underprivileged children, lobbying on Capitol Hill in support of a resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian peace negotiations and working to get out the vote in an election.

Portfolio
The Portfolio is developed over the course of the semester. Each component is designed to document, analyze and reflect on the intern’s overall experience. The final product provides prospective employers or graduate and professional schools with a clear understanding of what was accomplished during the internship.
Components include:
- Individual Development Plan
- Résumé/Cover Letter
- Final Defense Letter
- Civic Engagement Project Reflection
- Informational Interview Reflection
- Public Policy Dialogues on Capitol Hill (letter to Congressional representative or subcommittee chair)
- Special assignments related to your program
