Intern Abroad Components

Washington D.C. Seminar
Students will begin their intern abroad program in Washington, DC where they participate in a fast-paced seminar featuring site visits, speakers, academic work, and other programming tailored to their respective programs. Ten days in length, the brief seminar equips students to look comparatively, through a variety of lenses, at their nation’s capital and the city in which they will intern and study abroad. It provides a substantial orientation that helps them take full advantage of their opportunities once in country.
Sample Seminar Day *

Depart housing and travel to The Washington Center’s headquarters |
| 9:30 a.m. |
Attend discussion of background readings related to the day’s theme |
| 10:30 a.m. |
Guest speaker, generally a professional with expertise on the theme of the day |
| 12:00 p.m. |
Break for lunch |
| 1:30 p.m. |
Site visit, generally to an international organization, business or nonprofit related to the day’s theme |
| 3:30 p.m. |
Professional development workshop |
| 5:30 p.m. |
Spend the evening exploring D.C., going out to dinner with new friends or doing some reading and preparation for the next day’s events |
