Tell us a little about yourself:

I’m a junior at the University of San Diego studying Political Science and Communication Studies. As an active member of my college campus, I’m involved in the Honor Council as well the Alcala Club at USD. I’m also a proud member of the Zeta Pi chapter of Alpha Delta Pi and love volunteering at the Ronald McDonald House. I enjoy learning about different cultures, traveling, and am so excited to be a part of the Ford Global Scholars program!

Why did you apply for this program?

The Washington Center provides a wonderful opportunity to gain meaningful academic and work experience. I applied for this program because of its emphasis on the U.N. Millennium Goals and global community development. I look forward to working with students from around the world and learning more about how to advocate for social issues on an international level.

Please identify one of the United Nation’s Millennium Goals in which you are most interested:

I’m most interested in the effort to promote gender equality and empower women. I believe equal education is the key to achieving all of the U.N. Millennium Development Goals.

What are your top professional goals? What do you want to accomplish during your internship?

After I graduate from the University of San Diego, I hope to attend law school and then eventually work for an organization focused on empowering women in the international community. Not only do I hope to gain valuable work experience through my internship, but I also hope to gain a deeper understanding of how U.S. policy affects the global environment.

How will the Ford Global Scholars Internship Program help you and your country in the future?

I believe this program will help me gain a more global perspective of the world as well as increase my knowledge of how to deal with the complex issues facing the international community. It will strengthen global partnerships in the future by fostering greater cultural understanding between countries.
