About myself: I am a Senior at TCU. I participate in intramural sports with my sorority and the Environmental Science club. I volunteer around Fort Worth for the Women's Center of Tarrant County and at the Fort Worth Zoo. I was born and raised in Overland Park, KS. I applied to this program in order to expand my horizons. I have heard wonderful things about the program and decided that as an environmental science major my opportunities with the program would be unique. Also it is a great time to be near the nation's capitol during this election year. The UN Millennium Development Goal that most interests me is ensuring environmental sustainability. My top professional goal is to make an impact on the world around me, whether it be creating new environmental regulations or researching in the ocean. During my internship, I hope to develop a better understanding of my goals, to establish myself with a well-meaning company and to gather connections that will help in the future. It's mostly about uncovering what I am capable of. I believe that this program will help me by allowing me to view different perspectives on the world. It's important to see the world through other people's eyes and this program is granting me the opportunity to do just that. I believe it will help the United States because as American students work with international students, it will show that we are willing to communicate to make the world a better place. The young can change the world and that is what the Ford Scholars program is teaching us.
