During the Roundtable on Civil Society & Social Responsibility, TWC welcomed a special keynote speaker and 4 expert panelists to discuss the topic of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and the role that it plays in civil society. The fall Roundtable focused on a range of partnerships and in-progress CSR initiatives to provide fall interns with the opportunity to become more aware and sensitive to the challenges facing our society at a community and global level.

TWC Civic Engagement Project Raises Money for the Whitman Walker AIDS Walk

An estimated 34 million people are living with HIV or AIDS, with a large number of this population residing in Sub-Saharan Africa. In an effort to help battle this deadly disease, TWC’s LGBTQA Civic Engagement Project raised over $600 for the Whitman Walker Health’s AIDS Walk. The event took place at the Freedom Plaza on Saturday, October 27th.

 

U.S.-Panama Initiative Tours the Organization of American States

The U.S.-Panama Initiative program had the special opportunity to tour the Organization of American States (OAS), the world's oldest regional organization of the Americas. Members of the OAS include all 35 independent countries of the Americas including Panama. The Organization was established to achieve an order of peace and justice, promote solidarity, strengthen collaboration, and defend the sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence of the member countries.

“OMG”: the three letters that began many tweets during the Campaign 2012 seminar. Each day our students were introduced to people and ideas that inspired them in new ways. I expected to help them integrate all they were learning into a deeper understanding of politics and the political process. What I did not anticipate was the degree to which the students would have to be coached into setting aside their awe. On more than one occasion I felt like the proverbial pail of cold water tempering their enthusiasm.

Estelle S. Kohn, J.D. hosts TWC interns each semester as an internship supervisor while working in her two roles as Deputy Director & Legal Internship Supervisor for the National Whisteblowers Center (NWC) and Legal Internship Administrator for the law firm of Kohn, Kohn & Colapinto, LLP (KKC). She helps TWC interns placed at these internship sites delve deeper into the world of social justice by often providing them with the opportunity to work on high-profile cases.

Washington Classroom: Evolution of Presidential Debates with Rob Ritchie

Rob Richie, Executive Director of FairVote, and several other guests came together to discuss the "Evolution of Presidential Debates." The guest speakers discussed the candidates' performances in the first two presidential debates between President Obama and Mitt Romney in addition to analyzing prior presidential debates.
