TWC recently hosted the Lobbyists, Legislators and Policy-Makers event as part of the Political Leadership Program Symposium. Both the Political Leadership and Córdova Congressional Program interns attended this event and were exposed to different opportunities in the policy and lobbying fields.

 

Spring 2013 Roundtable on Civil Society and Social Responsibility

Last week, TWC held the Spring 2013 Roundtable on Civil Society and Social Responsibility. Spring interns had the opportunity to hear from a wonderful keynote speaker and 5 professionals who came from a diversity of backgrounds and represent a number of major corporations and foundations. This particular event is held each semester with the intent of familiarizing interns with Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) opportunities.

Capital Alumni Regional Community Networking Reception

Alumni from the DC Metro area came together for a fun evening of networking at Buffalo Billiards. The Capital Alumni Regional Community, led by Glenn Alpert, TWC alumnus ('09, '10), and Katherine Kerchner, TWC alumna ('11), organized the event in an effort to re-connect with alumni in the District. Both Kate and Glenn think that it's “incredible that so many of us have stayed in D.C. or moved here shortly after the TWC program—why not bring everybody out and get to know each other as TWC alumni?”

 

Ohio-TWC Partnership Celebration

TWC celebrated 15 years of partnership with the state of Ohio during a reception at the Athletic Club in downtown Columbus, Ohio. Since the late 1990s, the Ohio General Assembly has included Washington Center-specific scholarship support for Ohio based students in its bi-annual budget; to date, more than 1,400 students have benefited from the funding.

 

Premier of Manitoba is Featured Guest at Special TWC Event

Greg Selinger, Premier of Manitoba, was the featured guest of a special Sunday Public Policy Dialogues on Capitol Hill (PPDCH) event. The PPDCH events are part of The Washington Center's Internship Programs. More than 60 students, both international and domestic, attended his presentation at TWC's Residential Academic Facility, where the premier spoke on the topic of the role of subnational governments around the world. White House Fellows Program Hosts Panel during First SMLS of Spring 2013

For the first time, TWC hosted a special SMLS on the White House Fellows program. The event featured a panel of three White House Fellows moderated by Fatimeh Shamseddine, TWC alumna ('09) of the Center for Global Understanding (CFGU) program and Special Assistant to the Director for the White House Fellowship Program. The panelists all belonged to the current 2012-2013 cohort of White House Fellows, representing backgrounds and fields in military, science and law.

Before I arrived in Washington, D.C., I was entirely confident that the experience would be positive. But I never anticipated the lasting impression those 10 days would leave on my Harvard classmates and I. To be sure, the seminar motivated some to seriously consider a run for office, while it also had quite the opposite effect on others.  For me it served to reaffirm that I am indeed on the correct path towards fulfilling my academic and career aspirations.
