Fifteen students in the Veterans Civic Engagement Project volunteered as course marshals in a ten-mile race in Reston, Virginia on March 3rd to support Team Red, White & Blue (RWB), which seeks to reintegrate veterans into society through physical and social activities.

Why were animal lovers from the Humane Society University, a Deputy Police Chief from Alexandria, Virginia, advocates for domestic violence victims, a gay men’s rights activist and a torture survivor from Ethiopia all gathered at TWC the morning of December 18th? They were enjoying a delicious breakfast and celebrating their partnerships with TWC’s Civic Engagement Projects on:

TWC hosted a special Veterans Day Presentation featuring Command Sergeant Major (CSM) James Bartell, a veteran in the US Army Reserve, who spoke to the Political Leadership, Cordova, and Advocacy, Service and Arts (ASA) programs at the Blinken Auditorium.

Veterans Civic Engagement students outdid themselves this semester, setting an example for how civilians throughout the U.S. can thank “our heroes” for their service.

More than 60 students participated in a race organized by our partner organization, Team Red, White & Blue (Team RWB) at 1:50 AM in Bethesda. Team RWB seeks to reintegrate veterans into society through physical exercise and social events.

If only by virtue of their rarity, the academic seminars hosted by The Washington Center (TWC) are a unique experience.  But my time in Charlotte was more than a confluence of fortunate timing.  It is an experience of enrichment and inspiration that will come to define my academic career at Bridgewater State University.
