Fall 2012 Roundtable on Civil Society & Social Responsibility

During the Roundtable on Civil Society & Social Responsibility, TWC welcomed a special keynote speaker and 4 expert panelists to discuss the topic of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and the role that it plays in civil society. The fall Roundtable focused on a range of partnerships and in-progress CSR initiatives to provide fall interns with the opportunity to become more aware and sensitive to the challenges facing our society at a community and global level.

Understanding Domestic Violence: TWC Fall Interns Work with NNEDV

This fall TWC launched their new Domestic Violence Fall 2012 Civic Engagement Project in partnership with the National Network to End Domestic Violence (NNEDV), a highly-respected social change organization dedicated to creating an environment where violence against women no longer exists. As part of the advocacy component, students worked with NNEDV to support reauthorizing the Violence against Women Act (VAWA).

Students from Massachusetts Meet Rep. Niki Tsongas

TWC interns from Massachusetts had the opportunity to meet with Rep. Niki Tsongas (D-MA) and a member of her legislative staff in the Longworth House Office Building.  The students who attend the University of Massachusetts-Lowell and the University of New Hampshire were able to speak with Rep. Tsongas about various state and national policy issues such as the Dream Act and her stance on the political situation with Iran. Rep. Tsongas discussed how progressive Massachusetts is as a state and her reasons for voting “yes” on the Stopping Online Piracy Act.

 

New Hampshire Interns Meet Senator Shaheen

TWC interns from New Hampshire met with former their former Governor and current U.S. Senator, the Honorable Jeanne Shaheen and members of her legislative staff at the Hart Senate Office in Washington, D.C.  The students, who attend Fitchburg State University, University of Massachusetts—Lowell, University of New Hampshire, Suffolk University, and Stonehill College, spoke with Senator Shaheen and her staff about their current internship sites and policy issues including: veterans, unemployment and immigration.
