Why were animal lovers from the Humane Society University, a Deputy Police Chief from Alexandria, Virginia, advocates for domestic violence victims, a gay men’s rights activist and a torture survivor from Ethiopia all gathered at TWC the morning of December 18th? TWC Civic Engagement Project Raises Money for the Whitman Walker AIDS Walk

An estimated 34 million people are living with HIV or AIDS, with a large number of this population residing in Sub-Saharan Africa. In an effort to help battle this deadly disease, TWC’s LGBTQA Civic Engagement Project raised over $600 for the Whitman Walker Health’s AIDS Walk. The event took place at the Freedom Plaza on Saturday, October 27th.

 

LGBTQA Civic Engagement Project visits the Human Rights Campaign

As part of the LGBT Civic Engagement Project, students visited the Human Rights Campaign's (HRC) national headquarters in Washington, D.C. The visit was organized by Candace Gingrich-Jones, Associate Director of Youth and Campus Outreach. The Human Rights Campaign is the largest civil rights organization working to achieve equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Americans.
