On Thursday, March 21, 2013, seven students from Massachusetts sat down with Rep. Jim McGovern in his suite in the Rayburn House Office Building. The students were Brendon Grabowski, Elyse Sutkus, Andrew Wood, Lauryn Weaver, Gina Sheehan, Dorinda Abrafi, and Jesse Simonson.

Fostering and Enhancing the Students' Academic Learning Experiences through Academic Seminars

The Washington Center for Internships and Academic Seminars (TWC) recognized their 2012 Academic Affairs Award recipients during a luncheon at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. TWC celebrated devoted faculty, engaged universities and special partners for their work in the fields of civic education and leadership.

If only by virtue of their rarity, the academic seminars hosted by The Washington Center (TWC) are a unique experience.  But my time in Charlotte was more than a confluence of fortunate timing.  It is an experience of enrichment and inspiration that will come to define my academic career at Bridgewater State University.

TWC interns from Massachusetts were given the opportunity to meet with Rep. Bill Keating (D-MA) and a member of his legislative staff. The meeting took place in his office at the Cannon House building.

TWC interns from Massachusetts met with Representative Barney Frank’s legislative staff at the Rayburn House Office Building in Washington, D.C.  The students, who attend the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth, Bridgewater State University, and Dean College, spoke with the congressman’s staff about various concerns and policy issues concerning their district, such as the new transit line in the fourth district and the fisherman’s initiative. One student also gave the staff a letter for the congressman to sign.
