Help Desk Support Specialist

The Washington Center for Internships and Academic Seminars (TWC), the largest organization providing full-time internships for college and university students in the Washington D.C. area, seeks a Help Desk Support Specialist to coordinate and help with all activities in the IT Department. The position will report to and assist the IT Director. This full-time position requires a person with IT experience of at least 2 years who understands business IT standards and their supporting technologies, with a strong focus on quality assurance. This person will serve all departments in the organization to ensure that technology is utilized effectively to meet business processes and organizational needs.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills are needed in order to work with multiple departments, coordinate Help Desk support, work on special projects, and provide basic IT training to the staff.

Responsibilities:

The Help Desk Support Specialist will coordinate, log, and respond to staff requests, troubleshoot software as well as address hardware issues, and deploy and support new software and hardware in the organization. He/She will be responsible for all audio visual and telecommunication setups needed. He/She will lead specific special projects assigned by the supervisor. The Help Desk Support Specialist will actively communicate with vendors and service providers, will plan a monthly training session for Staff on best practices in the usage of IT, and will participate in IT strategic planning meetings.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience supporting complex and diverse hardware and software.
  • Experience in troubleshooting Microsoft Windows XP systems, as well as the Microsoft Office 2007 products.
  • Hardware repair skills.
  • Antivirus and Spyware troubleshooting knowledge.
  • Basic understanding of Microsoft Active Directory, as well as basic skills in Microsoft Windows 2003 servers.
  • Experience in using Symantec Ghost as well as Microsoft Sysprep Tools.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work with all levels of the organization.
  • Knowledge and understanding of application systems and computing devices.
  • Ability to complete tasks and projects in a timely manner.
  • Report on hardware, software, and issue trends in the organization.
  • A+ or MCP certifications are preferred.
