I am a junior at Washington University, with origins from Silver Spring, MD. I am a first-generation born Taiwanese American. My interests outside of academics include watching the surging Washington Redskins, making Chinese hotpot, and enjoying my time at the university with my fraternity brothers of the Theta Xi fraternity. I am currently learning a great deal about the United States financial and accounting systems.

I applied to this program because I wanted to spend one semester away from Washington University, but not necessarily study abroad. I wanted to use this semester in a most efficient and effective way to expand my horizons on US-China issues; thus, The Washington Center’s program was the best option available for my goals.

I am most interested in the capitalism of United States companies in China (brands such as Coca-Cola, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Nike) and the acceptance that China has expressed towards this capitalism.

My top professional goals are to work in many different areas of the world and to challenge myself in different fields and aspects of international work. I want to improve on time management, professional conduct, and communication during my internship.

This internship program will allow me to expand my thinking and views of international politics, trade, and economics beyond current comprehension. This program will facilitate my becoming a more effective and intellectual worker and citizen, as I start working on behalf of the United States in the workforce.
