I am a senior attending California State University Long Beach majoring in business with an emphasis in accounting. During the past two years I have worked as an accounting intern at my schools Career Development Center. At my internship I was able to work with the Fiscal Analyst to handle many managerial accounting situations. My involvement on campus includes being treasurer of two organizations: Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Incorporated and the Black Business Student Association. I have also been active in the Accounting Society by assisting in the Volunteer Income Tax Assistant Program where I helped students and citizens in the surrounding communities prepare their tax returns. During my free time I enjoy reading, playing basketball, golfing and spending time with family. I had the opportunity to travel to China this past June with my school. The class objective was to understand how American companies implement business strategies in a foreign country. The experiences I had during my stay in China further sparked my interest in expanding my knowledge about US-China relations. One of my career goals is to become a CPA (Certified Public Accountant) and have experience dealing with international accounting rules and regulations such as IFRS or IAS. It is evident that more and more businesses are crossing their borders and expanding to international markets. I would like to be placed in an internship that deals with conflicting financial perspectives of both countries and helping to find a strategic solution. Any financial aspect that concerns both countries such as trade imbalance, currency policy, or the opposing country companies entering a new market. My involvement with the US-Chinese Bilateral Trade program will give me international exposure to some of the critical issues and decisions the U.S. faces on a daily basis. It is also a chance of a lifetime to engage in positive communication with my Chinese counterparts by working on group simulations, doing civic engagements, and understanding cultural differences. This program will confirm to the world that the U.S. can, and will work with other countries interdependently to produce a better future.
