Temporary Assistant, Communications

Job Description

This is for a temporary, full-time position to help The Washington Center with the organization of InternsROCK! Week 2013, which is an internship appreciation week. Salary is $13/hour with no overtime.

 

Essential Functions

  • Coordinate all InternsROCK! logistics for key card distribution/pick-up with students, internship sites, and any other relevant audiences.
  • Assist coordinating the InternsROCK! event by performing research of possible vendors, sending letters, coordinating meetings, following-up with contacts and maintaining a database of participants.
  • In charge of operationalizing the InternsROCK! communications plan.
  • Responsible for maintaining InternsROCK! 2013 content on various online platforms (e.g. web, social media)
  • Monitor communications campaigns for InternsROCK! on a daily bases and gather relevant data for final report.

Education and Experience

An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered:

  • Junior, Senior or recent graduate from a marketing, communications or PR major (or related field).
  • Previous internship experience in PR, event planning or communications fields preferred.

  • Proficiency in MS Office with strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word.

Equipment

Used to perform the job and which may be representative but not all inclusive of those commonly associated with this position:

  • Standard office equipment including a facsimile machine, photocopier, and telephone system
  • Personal computer, job-related software and printer

Internships

Semester integrated academic and work experiences in government, corporations and nonprofit organizations. Each internship is tailored to provide meaningful work experiences that will enhance students’ resumes and help launch their careers. Most internships are in Washington, D.C., but there are also opportunities abroad in London, England and Sydney, Australia. Additionally, students take academic courses and attend special programming during their time at TWC.

 

Academic Seminars

These intensive learning experiences are focused on specific topics, such as National Security, the Presidency and the Middle East Peace Process. Past seminars have included visits to such locations as Capitol Hill, CNN, the Newseum, embassies and many others. Seminar events have featured such respected speakers as Ted Koppel, Discovery Channel; Andrea Mitchell, NBC News; Governor Howard Dean, Chairman of the Democratic National Committee; and others.
