Abitibi-Consolidated Congressional Scholar Named for Fall Semester 2006
Washington, D.C.– The Washington Center for Internships and Academic Seminars, in partnership with Abitibi-Consolidated, Inc., announced Garry Ivey as the Fall 2006 recipient of the Abitibi-Consolidated Congressional Scholarship.
Ivey, a political science major at Texas Christian University, is part of the Congressional Leadership Program. Ivey earned an internship in the office of Senator John Cornyn (R-TX).
On his hopes for his experience in Washington over the course of the semester, Ivey writes: “While in Washington D.C., I aspire to obtain practical experience and an understanding of the role that attorneys play in national security policy and legislation. We live in uncertain times and deal with security challenges that require thoughtful strategies that not only enhance our security, but also maintain our individual freedoms.
“I am delighted that Garry is so excited about his Washington internship and, on behalf of Abitibi- Consolidated, wish him well as he embarks on this challenging educational experience,” said Seth Kursman, Vice President, Communications and Government Affairs.
