’81 Alumna Elected to The Washington Center’s Board of Directors

Washington, D.C. – The Washington Center, a premier provider of internships and academic seminars, today announced the appointment of Susan Pannullo, M.D., to its board of directors. “I am amazed at the high quality of The Washington Center,” she said following her visit in Washington, D.C.   She looks forward to working to provide additional educational opportunities for future interns, possibly among them future doctors, scientists and engineers attentive to the various intersections of science, government, and society that advance the human condition.

“The talent and diverse expertise of our board has always been one of The Washington Center’s key assets, as witnessed by our ability to attract stellar alumni like Susan,” said Mike Smith, president of The Washington Center.

Dr. Susan Pannullo is the Director of Neuro-Oncology in the Department of Neurological Surgery at New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center.  She is board certified in both neurology and neurological surgery, and is fellowship-trained in neuro-oncology.  Dr. Pannullo received her undergraduate degree with honors in anthropology from Cornell University in 1983, and her medical degree from Cornell University Medical College in 1987.  Following a medicine internship at Harvard-Beth Israel Medical Center, she completed a neurology residency at New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center in 1991. From 1991 to 1992, she was an American Cancer Society Fellow in neuro-oncology at Memorial-Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. She then completed a second residency in neurological surgery at New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in 1997, becoming the program's first female graduate. Her research has included numerous clinical trials as well as laboratory research at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland.

The Washington Center for Internships and Academic Seminars is an independent, nonprofit organization that serves hundreds of colleges and universities in the United States and other countries by providing selected students challenging opportunities to work and learn in Washington, D.C. for academic credit. The largest program of its kind, The Washington Center has more than 35,000 alumni who have become leaders in numerous professions and nations around the world.  It was established in 1975.

Deadline for Fall 2008 Washington, D.C.-London Internship Program is extended to May 30, 2008

Regular deadline for Fall Semester, Quarter and Postgraduate 2008 is June 13, 2008.

Competitive deadline for Spring 2008 Semester, Winter and Spring Quarters and Postgraduate is September 29, 2008.
