Three Students Receive Scholarships

Washington, D.C.– The Washington Center for Internships and Academic Seminars, in partnership with Ford Motor Company’s philanthropic arm, Ford Motor Company Fund, announced Jonathan Adewuya, Jason Hirata and Jameliah Jacobs as the Spring 2007 recipients of the Ford Motor Company Fund diversity Scholarship.

Adewuya, a political science major, attends University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, and is part of the International Affairs Program at The Washington Center. Adewuya earned a placement at Financial Services Roundtable. Hirata, a political science major, attends University of California-San Diego, and is part of the Law and Criminal Justice Program. Hirata earned a placement with Kohn, Kohn & Colapinto, LLP. Jacobs, a government major, attends the Utica College, and is part of the Advocacy, Service, and the Arts Program. Jacobs earned a placement at Amnesty International.

The support of Ford Motor Company and Ford Motor Company Fund spans 20 years, beginning with their program support for the Congressional Breakfast Series in 1986.  In addition to unrestricted and event sponsorship, Ford Motor Company Fund has been instrumental to many important milestones that mark the development of The Washington Center’s Diversity Leadership Initiative: it provided seed grants for the creation of the Minorities in Congress Internship Program in 1993 and the NAFTA Leaders Internship Program in 1996.  Ford has been steadfast in supporting students of diverse backgrounds with its ongoing scholarship contribution.

“Today's students are tomorrow's leaders and through Ford’s support of the The Washington Center, we are helping students achieve their personal and academic goals,” said Raquel "Rocky" Egusquiza, director of community development, Ford Motor Company Fund.  “Our hope is that this scholarship program cultivates the learning experiences required to ensure the future success of these students.”
In 2005, Ford Motor Company Fund contributions totaled more than $79 million. With these contributions, Ford Motor Company Fund was able to support a broad range of initiatives to improve the quality of life within communities (More Information)
