Business Software Alliance Scholar Announced for Fall 2005

The Washington Center for Internships and Academic Seminars, in strategic partnership with the Business Software Alliance (BSA), today announced Sean Anthony Graves as the fall 2005 recipient of the Business Software Alliance Scholarship.

Graves, a third year undergraduate majoring in political science and philosophy at Dayton, Ohio's Wright State University, is an outstanding scholar with nearly a 4.0 grade point average. He is in the Honors Program at Wright State, a member of the Phi Alpha Delta Honorary Society and the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, and has been repeatedly named on his university's Dean's List.

Graves is interning at the Washington, D.C. public relations and lobbying firm of Palumbo and Cerrell, Inc. Palumbo and Cerrell is heavily involved in lobbying efforts to protect intellectual property rights, and represents clients such as ASCAP, The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers. According to Paul Scrabut, president of Palumbo and Cerrell, “ Graves is working on nothing but intellectual property rights advocacy.”

The Business Software Alliance's scholarships for college interns are an important component of its higher education initiative, introduced in 2003. The scholarship program, offered to outstanding students attending The Washington Center, helps raise awareness among college students about the importance of respecting intellectual property rights for creative works such as music, motion pictures, and computer software.

“BSA commends The Washington Center for providing students with invaluable opportunities to work in the private and government sectors,” said Robert Holleyman, president and CEO for BSA. “BSA is pleased to support these internships which allow young people entering the 21st century workforce to expand their technical knowledge and online awareness.”

According to Arleen Ramirez Borysiewicz, senior vice president at The Washington Center, “The Washington Center is proud to partner with BSA and assist its efforts to support college students such as Sean Graves, an outstanding individual who has demonstrated a high level of personal integrity and a sincere interest in public policy that respects and enforces intellectual property rights.”
